How Long Does The Nicotine Withdrawal Last

Every smoker out there, who has ever thought of giving up smoking before knows, that there’s withdrawal symptoms from nicotine. Anyway most smokers are not sure about how long the withdrawal symptoms are going to last and they become afraid of not being able to stand them.

Physical withdrawal symptoms do usually not last for longer than 3 weeks. In a few cases they can take up to two months, but in many cases they don’t take longer than a few days, so withdrawal symptoms like sickness and headache are really nothing to be afraid of, it will go away quickly.

Mental withdrawal symptoms are a little bit more complicated as they actively involve the brain. They are not painful, as they do not include any headache or any other aching, but they can make a smoker feel very uncomfortable. It is hard to tell how long the mental withdrawal symptoms are going to last, as it depends on every single person. In most cases the mental withdrawal symptoms are gone at 100% after 6 – 18 months. This sounds very long for a smoker, but in fact 80% of the time are easy to endure compared to the first few weeks without cigarettes.

This means that only the first few weeks after the last cigarettes are difficult. After this period time seems to go by much faster and the urge to smoke decreases more and more. You must just not smoke a single cigarette during this time, as the brain has a so called "addiction memory". This addiction memory is being disabled during the first weeks after the last cigarette, but it can become active again if you smoke only one cigarette, and this effect can quickly lead you back to your old smoking habits.
