How Does Smoking Hurt Your Heart

The most important term to mention here is the so called arteriosclerosis which is a disease of the artery. Smoking abets the development of such a disease. In this article we will discuss the risk of arteriosclerosis for smokers, as well as what happens in the body and in the heart of a smoker.

smoker-heart When a smoker starts to smoke he also starts pumping lots of toxic and fat substances thourgh his lungs into his blood. Many of those substances cannot be degraded by the body and start depositing in the blood vessels. The body tries to keep up and remove those substances as fast as possible, but the cardio vascular system is taking damage over the years and it does start to accumulate calcium carbonate, fat and cholesterol. Of course the dietry habit play a role as well, but smoking has a significannt effect on the whole prcess. This process is sneaky and without any smptoms for years and decades, but eventually results in heart attacks, apopleptic strokes, thrombosis and a sudden decease.

What happens in your body is, that the substances being accumulated in the blood vessels narrow down the diameter of the vessels. This results in hypertension and an increased heart frequency, which is of course a serious exposure for your heart. The narrowing down of the blood vessels result in an oxygen undersupply in the whole body, including the brain and the heart itself. A heart attack is when a part of the heart does not get enough oxygen and finally dies.

Ininfluencable risk factors are age, gender (men suffer more often from is than women) and genetic disposition.

Number one of all influencable risk factors is smoking! More than 90% of all people who have a heart attack before the age of 40 are smokers.

The best way to prevent this kind of cardiovascular disease is to stop smoking as fast as possible and forever. Though the reduction of the cigarettes smoked daily can reduce the risk of arteriosclerosis, a withdrawal is much more effective than a reduction. Doing sports on a regular basis can also significantly reduce the risk. It doesn’t have to be competitive sports, daily promenades are completely sufficent sufficent.

Keep your weight in the normal, or a little bit above the normal level. In addition to the sports, this is the best way to keep the level of bad cholesterol in your body low. The heart doesn’t seem to be very fragile until people reach a certain age. Only then the damage, the heart has already taken due to the smoking habit becomes more and more obvious, but it is often too late to do something at this point.
