Beating The Nicotine Withdrawal Symptoms

If you have already tried to stop smoking before you should know quite well, that there is situations in which it is just very hard to stand the need to smoke a cigarette. This article will teach you how to deal with such situations.

We all know the situations in which we usually smoke a cigarette. Let me just start with a typical one, that almost every single smoker experiences day by day.

You wake up in the morning just like every morning, you put your clothes on, you brush your teeth and you prepare for your work. You walk through your door and as you walk outside your door you just want to light up a cigarette, just like you do every morning in just the same situation. In this moment you notice that you don’t have any cigarettes with you, because you are trying to stop smoking.

Dealing with this situation is where the trouble begins. Let me give you another example: You are at lunch just like you are every day. You finish your meal, talk with somebody who’s with you and whe you’re finished you are just about to go outside and smoke a cigarette, when you remember, that you don’t have any because you want to stop smoking.

Being in situations in which other people smoke and in which you used to smoke is very hard when you try to quit smoking. In such a situation smokers usually feel an urge and they can hardly hold themselves back from asking colleagues for a cigarette. Keep in mind, if you do that, you will fail!

You must not smoke a cigarette, no matter how desperate you want it! Remember, you have to know that nicotine is just fooling your brain and this is why it tells you that you need a cigarette. Nicotine has changed the function of your brain and the fact that it tells you, that you need it doesn’t make it true!

In this situation your brain wants dopamine and dopamine is being released when you smoke. If it doesn’t get what it wants it will make you feel bad – like there’s something missing.

The good news is that this sate of urge comes in waves and it does not last very long – usually only a few minutes! What we can do in such a situation is to understand what’s going on in our brain now. You can give the brain what it wants – dopamine! You just don’t release it by inhaling tobacco smoke, you use another method instead:

Whenever you feel a strong urge to smoke, start breathing deep. Try to take breaths as deep as you can – try to yawn! You have probably already noticed that yawning makes you feel comfortable. This is due to the dopamine that is being released when you take deep breaths! If you keep on breathing deep you will feel that the urge to smoke disappears. It only takes a few minutes. Do this exercise in any situation in which you feel a stron urge to smoke.

If you want to know more about methods that can help you to surpress the urge to smoke, don’t hesitate to read the Smoker Smack Report – an E-Book that has been developed to show you how to deal with the withdrawal symptoms and how to start you smoke free life. Read More…
