Relapse Rate In Smoking Cessation – Smoking Cessation Relapse Prevention

It is almost five months now since I have stopped smoking and I am unshaken yet. Recently I had that strong urge to smoke once again, and that made me research the relapse rate of those who want to stop smoking. The result did not surprise me at all. Firstly let me tell you how it went with me:

At the beginning I had that urge I mentioned above very often, quite a couple of times a day. During the first few days I even got the impression, I wanted to smoke all the time. After a few weeks the frequency of that urge began to reduce more and more. By now I feel that urge only once in a few weeks.

I strongly believe that the smoking cessation relapse rate goes very close together with the frequency of the urge occurring. During the first few days you practically feel that urge all the time. Of course this makes the relapse risk increase for every smoker during that time. Almost 80% of all smokers who want to stop smoking relapse during the first 7 days of smoking abstinence.

This may first seem to be shocking but believe me, most of the do not even know, that the relapse rate decreases dramatically afterwards. This means that if you can stay abstinent for the first two weeks your chances of becoming smoke free for good are much higher. From those who resist the first two weeks only 35% relapse during the first six months, and from those who resist the first six months only 5% relapse during the following years. As you see the longer you manage to stay abstinent the higher your chances of success.

This is what I had to know when I felt that urge some days ago and if you put that into relation with the frequency of the urge to smoke that a smoker who tries to stop it feels, you will very soon see that both, frequency of the urge and relapse rate over time are proportional to each other. The key is to resist as long as you can at the beginning.

Now what happens after a longer period of smoking abstinence? I can tell you: It becomes easier and easier day by day. The urge that you now have to fight 10 times a day will only return once in a few weeks, and if you are able to resist it in a high frequency at the beginning you will easily be able to resist that urge once in a couple of weeks. After some months you will easily be able not even to think about smoking anymore for days and weeks. How does that sound to you?

I know exactly how hard it is to stop smoking at the beginning. And this is why I made the Smoker Smack Report available to all of you who are serious to stop smoking.
